Analysis of User Clicks and Paths

This article was published in the print magazine Drupal Watchdog, Volume 5 Issue 1,

For determining what content on a website is most attractive to human visitors, traffic statistics of page hits alone can be misleading, because they don't reveal the popularity of the actual page content or where people are clicking. A page lacking valuable content may be more frequented merely because of its compelling title. Consider supplementing web traffic monitoring with tools that generate heat maps of mouse clicks, such as ClickHeat, ClickTale, CrazyEgg, and SeeVolution. Path analysis can be performed using the free TraceWatch or in real time using Clicky or Woopra. There are Drupal modules for all of these.
