Denton Restaurants

Located in the northern region of the Lone Star State, the city of Denton is home to more than 148,000 people (as of 2021), as well as a large number of restaurants catering to those residents.

Over a period of several years, I have gradually compiled an alphabetical list of almost all the restaurants in Denton (with the exception of the low-end hamburger and fried chicken fast food joints, as well as the coffee and bagel places). The list contains the essential information that may be of interest to a potential patron, including each restaurant's location, contact data, foods served, and — for those eateries I have visited — the seating comfort, noise level, dishes ordered, prices paid, and my personal evaluation of the food.

Learning of this detailed list, some local residents have requested that I publish it as an article. It is not intended as a complete guide, but instead only comprises personal notes based on my research and dining experiences. No attempt has been made within each entry to write detailed descriptions or even complete sentences. Consider the contents as only raw notes presented in an unpolished format.

Many of the restaurants listed below have an annotation after the name: "[y]" means that yes I would want to eat there again; "[n]" means no I would not; and "[x]" means I currently exclude it from consideration because the particular restaurant is not open for weekday lunches.

If the restaurant has a location-specific website address, then that is the one shown; otherwise, the generic company website is shown.

The prices for the entrées tried so far, as well as other information, is only current as of the time of my visit, and by now may be out of date — especially given the ongoing depreciation of the US dollar.

In the days and hours of operation for each restaurant's entry, the days are indicated with single letters: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, THursday, Friday, Saturday, and SuNday.

This article might be updated at some point in the future, with the addition of any newly-opened eateries, the deletion of any that have closed for business (there have been several such closings during the past two years alone), and new commentary on recently-visited restaurants.

In my opinion, of the 205+ restaurants listed below, the best I have visited so far would be:

Indian food. It was the worst restaurant experience I have had in Denton. The seats had minimal cushioning. The bathroom had no soap or paper towels, and was dirty. The restaurant and staff were comically disorganized. We ordered chicken curry and paneer butter masala, but were given two chicken curries instead. They had no water to drink. The young waitress was sullen and unintelligible. There were flies; the insect zapper racquet was not being used. The staff ignored the customers and watched cricket on television. The food, especially the garlic naan, was tasty, but it was served in small plastic containers. It was overpriced ($28.11 for little food!) and too spicy. They charged my credit card ineptly and said the charge didn't go through; so I paid cash and they stiffed me on the cash back; the charge went through minutes later, but they didn't notice, and I had to return later to get a refund. They didn't answer their phone, but called back a couple hours later and were unintelligible.

A popular bakery and sandwich chain.
The seats were hard wood. The AC was not too cold. There was no music, but it was noisy from conversation and bad acoustics. There are no restrooms, but some are located in the nearby art building.
The Turkey, Bacon & Avocado Sandwich ($7.19) was good. The Nova Lox ($7.49) was okay, but the tomato slice was unripe and very thin. They charged $0.30 for a cup of water!
