Workflow and Content Strategy Postmortems

During the planning and implementation of any substantial website, countless decisions must be made regarding content strategy, workflows, and other components — with unpredictable consequences. Valuable lessons can be learned by critically analyzing the results of those decisions during the project and after. For instance, in a large Drupal project I joined underway, the managers had earlier insisted that separate groups of staff members control the editorial workflow of sets of related pages, even though functionally it was unneeded. This led to a painfully large number of content types, roles, and workflow rules.
